Enjoying Humor and Entertainment from Comics
The history of comics as a form of art and creative literature dates back many centuries ago. Comics have always been viewed as humorous and fantasy-based works of art. In many cases, comics are usually associated with kids and are conventionally viewed as a source of childish fun. Many people think that comics contain childish fantasies and it seems weird and awkward for an adult to love reading comics.
However, this insinuation is a depiction of how public ignorance can deprive a wonderful source of fun and entertainment to the adult populace due to stereotypical notions and misunderstandings. Essentially, comics offer a great source of humor and entertainment for the whole family. This is evidenced by the great fan base generated by some of the most successful comic-based movies in history such as the Spiderman movie franchise. Honestly, I also thought of comics as childish until I was introduced to them by a friend during a depressing phase in my life.
After being introduced to comics by a friend, who has been an avid fan since childhood, I discovered an entirely new world of entertainment and fun. Comics contain wonderful jokes and humorous dialogue that can be very uplifting during depressive stints. Additionally, comics contain creative stories that offer great entertainment for both adults and children. My appreciation for comics is evidence that they are great sources of entertainment for all.
Sickness and Depression that was Overcomed by Comics
Several years ago, I enrolled for a volunteer program in West Africa. The work involved getting into the interior regions of some countries in West Africa for humanitarian assistance. We penetrated some very remote territories and some of us feel sick. Although we had received vaccinations for the trip, we encountered a new strain of malaria and most of us succumbed.
After suffering severe infection, we were flown back home and it was awful. I was admitted in hospital for three weeks and it was the most depressing thing I have ever felt. I felt like weakling and I even felt that I had failed the entire crew by failing to deliver on my volunteer program. As I lay on my hospital bed watching boring movie reruns, a friend of mine came to visit.
After confiding in him regarding my depressive mood, which was also evident, he suggested a remedy of humor and fun to uplift my spirits. That is when he brought comics to my life.
Unprecedented Cure Which Made a Difference
My friend supplied me with a small collection of comics to start with. He picked the most entertaining and humorous comics in order to interest me in reading them. At first I was very skeptical about the whole idea. I browsed the pages and ignored the materials for several hours. After sometime, I decided that nothing could be more depressing than lying on a hospital bed feeling like a weakling.
I started reading the comics. This is when my life changed and my whole idea of comics was altered. I found myself laughing freely at the jokes and after several hours of reading I was very light spirited. I devoured the entire stack and called my friend requesting for more. Being an avid fan, he had quite a collection and he supplied with an endless supply of comics until I left the hospital.
I was in a very good mood for the remainder of my hospital stay and even my doctors remarked that the comics had helped to shorten my hospital stay. After this encounter, I became a huge fan of comics and I even have a big collection of them in my house. Any time I feel depressed and in low spirits, I always turn to my comics for humor and fun and I never regret it.
