Creativity and Inspiration from Comics

Comics are predominantly associated with humor and fantasy in many settings. Although comics have existed for a long time, people have only started appreciating their serious influence with the advent of big budget comic-based movies such as Spiderman and Batman in the late 20th century. However, in addition to their conventional humor, comics contain vast amounts of knowledge and offer a powerful source of inspiration for children.

Although traditional comics are synonymous with humor, some of them and most of the modern comics have played a huge role in inspiring creativity and influencing children to realize their creative passions and to embrace them. Expectedly, I am a huge fan of comics although this was not always the case as a child. As a young kid, I liked comics to a certain degree but I mainly considered them to be a bit childish.

Being the first born in my family, I tried to play the “adult” kid when I was very young which forced me to adopt what I thought to be an adult persona at a young age. In this light, I was even ashamed of loving comics and I used to hide my love for these wonderful creations. This was until my big shot uncle Joe, a world renowned plastic surgeon, confided his love for comics and how they had helped him to discover his creative side and to overcome his childhood fears leading to his successful career to date.

My uncle’s story is evidence that comics can inspire children to be creative and also boost their self-confidence to overcome their childhood fears thereby promoting lifelong success.

Childhood Struggles that Needed Some Hasty Actions

My uncle Joe experienced some nasty experiences as a child. He was relatively bright for his age but rather flail as compared with other kids. Being a genius of sorts, my uncle excelled academically, which as expected earned him the wrath of some of the other students, especially the big bullies who disdained young achievers.

To add insult to injury my uncle was not very keen on physical sports but preferred spending most of his time reading, which earned him the name geek. He could not fit in any “cool” crew and he was overly shy when it came to talking to girls. He only thing that kept him going was his love for comics and the inspiration he derived from them.

Childhood Inspiration and Future Success all Because of Comics

My uncle’s fortunes started turning when one of his class teachers started taking interest in his study patterns. The teacher discovered my uncle’s love for comics and he started teaching him how he could derive inspiration and confidence from comics. The teacher taught my uncle how to relate and personalize famous heroes in comics and how to implement the tactics they used to overcome horrifying villains in their quests.

From then on, my uncle discovered how he could use his strengths to overcome bullying torments and also to boost his creative side. My uncle started using his vast knowledge to silence teasing bullies and to impress his classmates. He would tell chubby kids, including my uncle, that they were so fat they should stop eating… So just what my uncle did was stop eating… Not entirely, but healthily, and he also started using quick weight loss pills and supplements to help him even more.

With time, he earned quite a reputation and became an idolized class hero. He also learnt how to imitate his heroes in order to overcome stereotypical fears and prejudice. All the heroes he embraced appeared to ignore and overcome conventional barriers to achieve succeed in their quests.

Similarly, my uncle discarded his initial doubts and followed his heart in both his childhood and adult life. He went on to pursue plastic surgery, when it was not as merited a profession as it is today. From a seemingly weak and odd kid, my uncle discovered his creativity talent and used it in the plastic surgery field. As he confided in me, he credits his life’s success on the inspiration and strength he got from comics as a child.
