117 - great achievements

my father had to give up his dream of becoming a world champion cactus-muncher when my mother got pregnant

instead he became a stupid rock star

he always regretted settling for a regular job instead of following his dreams

  1. Joseph says:

    LIEK!
Also, this comic got me hunger for cactus.

  2. JheeBz says:

Obviously I would like more stuff on a regular basis, but the question is: Do you think you’re capable of keeping up with it? A comic a day is a lot for a single person. Most comic sites have several people to come up with ideas.

  3. Fletcher says:

i THINK i’ll be able to do it JheeBz; that’s partially what the “test” thing is about

I just noticed that I found it way easier to come up with stuff for the 24HR Comics Day strips than for usual strips

so I thought I’d have a go at doing comics like that, but polishing ‘em up a little too

  4. JheeBz says:

Awesome, looking forward to it! P.S. Cacti are delicious.

  5. Hank says:

i love it, but could the image perhaps be a little larger?

  6. krautato boy says:

I like the every-weekday part, but why did you start it on a friday? now i still have to wait til monday! oh, the agony! THE AGONY!!!

  7. MKR says:

    I wait with baited breath.

(this is a joke linked to the comic! See if you can spot it)

Because cactus needles use a bunch of hooks to stay in, see. Like fishing hooks? Ok I’ll get off the stage.

  8. Copernicus! says:

    My cacti..

  9. Bruno says:

    ¿Dood? I like it already.

New comics [almost] every single day!

  10. Bruno says:

Hey Fletcher… Would you sign my cast?

  11. Tom Servo says:

Hmm, I’ll try it out… But I think that six-panel comics are great. They allow for a much more well-rounded joke rather than a one-liner. But, like I said, I’ll try it on for size.

  12. Charles says:

The 3-panel comics aren’t as funny, but more IS better… so conflicted. Great comics, BTW.

  13. Matthew says:

what would his father be proud of?

the winning, or the cactus thing? >_>

  14. Lyn says:

O.O Fletcher! You have Tom Servo as a comic fan. :0

  15. Rawrdom says:

I Like The New Comics Every Week day
But I would Like A Big Comic every So Often

  16. Sean says:

    Awesome! Comics every day!
Fletcher, I support whatever you do, mostly because you give me laughter and I don’t have to do anything and therefore can’t really complain. :D

Cacti are like certain cheddars-way to sharp for my tastes. *ba-da pssh*

  17. O Carioca says:

I’M ALWAYS AFRAID OF CHANGES!! And my father was also a cactus eater (I can relate). If I die for any reason related to the new 3 comic panel I’m gonna be very angry

  18. Fletcher's Pa says:

I’m so proud son! You can finally be the man of the house.

  19. Jorge McGilligan says:

I like the change, personally. More comics=more fun, am I right?
Though it couldn’t hurt to throw in a biggun’ now and again.
    Still, good idea!

  20. Spirit says:

Personally, I think I would rather see larger comics and less rarely; it seems to make them feel a little more special.
Would it be possible to compromise to half sized comics three days a week?

  21. Sean (not the other Sean three above me, a different Sean) says:

I am completely indifferent towards the change of pace! :D
Everyone else should take notice of my initiative and assume The Position.

  22. Firesickle says:

Cheers Fletcher, thanks for the humor

  23. SuperDuperCarrots says:

how about doing the same thing, but with longer comics! am i a genius or what?

  24. Othello says:

I’m with Tom Servo; one-liner jokes are awesome and worth a feel **grin**!

With that said, I think your six-panel comics can kick your three-panel comics’ ass. Cactus eating competition … … … COMMENCE!!! >:D

  25. Blasphemous Rex says:

I personally prefer the larger comics with the occasional mini-comic collection. But I don’t know. we’ll see.

  26. Waffleman says:

I think I prefer the idea of a big new comic twice a week than a tiny one every weekday, but we’ll see how it goes.

  27. Alfie says:

Hey Fletcher, why not keep the 6-panel comics on Mon + Fri, but do minicomics inbetween?

  28. ExplosmStalker says:

God damn if this is a mutliple choice test i’m just circle D all of the above like i normally do

  29. Eric says:

How about short ones on Mondays and Fridays, and the original length on Wednesdays?

I really like your short ones, but they’re missing something that the more involved regular ones have.

  30. Ceam says:

I am a little afraid that doing one comic a day might lead to the comics not being so funny anymore after some time…(which is whats happening to explosm at the moment in my oppinion and they are 4 guys).
Also i think each comic won’t be something really special anymore when there is a new one every day.

  31. Pete says:

i agree with alfie, although obviously that would mean a lot of work for you. based on this comic alone, i would say 6 panels every mon/fri gets my vote… however this is the first of many so my opinion may change!

    also… i love antics!

  32. somedamnthing says:

I was just thinking, Man, I wish Antics were daily instead of twice a week. And then you said “i’m doin 5 a week guys” and now we’re ROOMMATES!!!!!

  33. Alias says:

NOOOOOOOO! Twice a week is special. Five times a week is the comical embodiment of slut. I look forward to the Monday/Friday comics.

I suppose it depends on what suits you best and I’ll read the strip either way so w/e.

    But still…NOOOOOOOO!

  34. Fletcher says:

jeez, lots of responses! I gave thought to trying to stay the same monday and friday, with extra comics in-between. But while I’m studying etc. I don’t think I could keep up that schedule every week

I’m HOPING that if I do more three panel comics, I’ll get better at them (i.e. learn to cram more funny in)

And yeah if I did decide to stick with smaller comics, I’d definitely still make a bigger one every once in a while (though maybe not EVERY week)

Also this comic isn’t EXACTLY what I was aiming for because I was pressed for time. I’ll probably change the looks/sizing a bit for the next ones :o

  35. Chris says:

    I propose..

    BIG COMIC FRIDAYS!

  36. Sparx says:

Panel two has made me laugh 4 times today!

  37. Peter says:

Half of the humor of the minicomics to me was the names for each strip. If you’re gonna do minicomics can they have funny names please :P

  38. Mojito says:

You are a slave to our laughter so you have to do what we say….. which is to say, do what ever makes you happy dear Fletcher..

  39. Musician of cool noises says:

Do what’s best for your schedule. While it’d be cool getting more comics, doing fewer but bigger ones means you can have better scenarios and even multiple jokes in them. But there’s also nothing wrong with simple (or complex?) three panels if done right…

Maybe just do…. random panel numbers! 3,4,5 or 6, depending on time and humour!

Bottom line: This is just my rambling suggestion, whatever you do, it usually makes me laugh, so keep up the good work regardless :D

  40. Graylin says:

i really like this one but i feel like it could have been better with six panels. hilarious and looking forward to a week of new antics!

  41. Espero says:

I personally prefer comics to have more content rather than more strips, but there’s nothing wrong with experimenting.

Just make sure that when you’re doing more comics, be careful not to run out of ideas too quickly (we don’t want your brain to catch fire!). I made a comic series that existed in my maths lecture notes. It had 94 episodes, but I was making one or two strips a day, and I found myself really struggling for ideas by the end.

  42. Duko says:

I shiver in fear of this new development.

  43. Reci says:

Hey Fletcher, for the entire month of September, Meghan Murphy from Kawaiinot didn’t post anything and her fan base was more worried about her than concerned if the comics would ever come out again. Soon as she posted something on Facebook about having a busy month she got like feedback from ninety-one people all saying ‘Welcome back’, not one negative comment.

Basically saying; if you find that life is getting busy, take a break. We won’t go anywhere. We’re your fans, and if you’re stressed out to bring us laughter… then quite frankly I’d rather you just take a break while I review the old comics and still get kicks out of it.

    Hope this makes sense to you o_o;

  44. Numbar_Foar says:

    Dear Fletcher,
How do you come up with sound effects for your comics?

    Sincerely, Numbar_Foar.

  45. fluffy bunny slippers says:

Don’t listen to Reci… We won’t survive a week without your comics… They complete us.

They are as sharp as a porcupine-cactus hybrid after an accident in a glass company, as funny as a clown with elephantitus, and as smooth as a yogurt enema.

Also if you are gonna do one long length comic a week it occurs to me that Sunday is the traditional date

  46. Jules. says:

Fletcher my kiwi friend, more comics more greatness in our lives.

I find myself coming to your page every day anyway haha so YES.

  47. SuperDuperCarrots says:

well, you said you were going to publish a comic, so where is it??? its already 3pm and i dont see any fletcher delight! i think u should keep it the way it was, two comics a week is alot, and it makes everything funnier because u have to wait for it

  48. Plet53 says:

    YAAAAAAY!

  49. ryan_davis says:

i love the idea of more comics, but i would prefer if you kept the comics bigger and used that space to convey a whole idea, not just a three-panel punch-line.

    Quality over quantity my friend.

  50. Quups says:

it is my humble opinion that you should use a monday-wednesday-friday tactic. that would give you enough time to think out semi-complex scenarios and provide us crazy readers with enough antics to get through the week. waiting monday through friday was rough…

otherwise, this is great. big pictures and complex(?) jokes are what i’m talking about, dawg.
